An original Gucci frame from the 2000s, preserved as deadstock and never worn with its original blue gradient UV-protective lenses. The archive example features a compact oval silhouette in a translucent mustard yellow frame, retaining its original lenses and vintage construction. Frame Model: GG 2483 (DG6) Decade: 2000s Country of Origin: Italy Lenses: Original blue gradient lenses Condition: Deadstock Measurements: 52-17-140 Historical Context Founded in Florence in 1921 by Guccio Gucci, the house began as a small luxury luggage workshop inspired by the refined travel culture he encountered while working at London’s Savoy Hotel. Gucci gradually developed a distinctive visual language built around Italian craftsmanship, equestrian references, the GG monogram, Flora motif, and an increasingly glamorous approach to fashion. Gucci eyewear was already being produced by the 1970s, with surviving Italian-made examples from the decade featuring oversized proportions, sculptural shapes, and prominent Gucci detailing. The eyewear translated the house’s luxurious and expressive aesthetic into bold sunglasses and optical frames, reflecting the era’s growing relationship between designer fashion and statement eyewear. By the 1980s and 1990s, Gucci had become an internationally recognized fashion house, with its eyewear continuing to evolve alongside its broader design identity.
