The World of Frames Abilene captures the bold, structured character of 1990s eyewear design. Its oversized rectangular silhouette features softly rounded corners and a gently curved brow, creating a strong yet balanced profile. The translucent grey-brown frame adds a subtle depth to the design, while the broad proportions give it a distinctly period character. Frame Model: Abilene (3) Decade: 1970s Country of Origin: Korea Lenses: Empty, ready for custom Condition: Excellent vintage Measurements: 58-20-135 Historical Context World of Frames appears to have been a vintage optical label active by at least the 1970s and 1980s, although very little verified company history survives today. Period frames were often named after cities, with models including Syracuse, Oakland, Albany, La Paz, Calcutta, and Virginia, suggesting a broad, travel-inspired collection structure. Surviving examples show production in Hong Kong, which was an important eyewear manufacturing center during this period. The frames capture the expressive optical design of the 1970s and 1980s, including oversized aviators, rounded acetates, gradient finishes, and bold geometric shapes. Because documentation on the original company is scarce, World of Frames is best understood today through its surviving vintage pieces rather than a well-documented fashion-house history.
