A rare Gianfranco Ferré optical frame from the 1980s, produced in Italy and preserved in its original archive form. The warm translucent honey-toned Optyl construction and slim rectangular silhouette reflect the refined material experimentation associated with Italian eyewear of the period. Frame Model: 586 (Yellow) Decade: 1980s Country of Origin: Italy Lenses: Clear demo lenses, ready for custom Condition: Deadstock Measurements: 53-15-130 Historical Context Founded in Milan in 1978, Gianfranco Ferré became known for a highly architectural approach to Italian fashion. Trained as an architect before turning to clothing, Ferré brought a strong sense of structure, proportion, and construction to his designs—earning him the nickname “the architect of fashion.” His work often balanced sharp tailoring and sculptural forms with luxurious fabrics, dramatic proportions, and an interest in the relationship between clothing and the body. Ferré’s career expanded significantly in the 1980s and ’90s, including his appointment as artistic director of Christian Dior from 1989 to 1996. His own label continued to develop a distinct language of polished Italian glamour, moving between severe, masculine tailoring and highly feminine, almost theatrical silhouettes. His eyewear reflects this evolution: bold proportions, geometric shapes, strong temples, and luxurious detailing that translate his architectural sensibility into an accessory.
