The Marchon CFG1 is an original 1980s frame produced in Japan, defined by a broad rounded silhouette and dark-toned construction. Its clean optical form is retained with the lenses removed, leaving the frame ready for custom fitting. Frame Model: CFG1 (62) Decade: 1980s Country of Origin: Japan Lenses: Empty, ready for custom Condition: Excellent Vintage Measurements: 57-13-140 Historical Context Founded in New York in 1983 by Al Berg, Larry Roth, and Jeff White, Marchon began as an independent eyewear company and developed into a major designer, manufacturer, and distributor of optical frames and sunglasses. The company built its reputation around innovative design, technical development, and collaborations with fashion and lifestyle brands, while its Flexon technology became an important early innovation in flexible eyewear materials. Marchon’s Japanese-made frames emerged as part of its international manufacturing network, with surviving vintage examples dating to at least the 1970s–1990s according to documented archival and resale examples. These Japanese-made frames include rounded, geometric, and sculptural silhouettes, often combining lightweight construction with distinctive colour and material treatments. Marchon’s Tokyo design office today forms part of its international design network, while Japanese production reflects the country’s established reputation for precision eyewear manufacturing.
