The Neostyle College 4/966 captures the bold, geometric character of 1980s German eyewear design. Its oversized rectangular silhouette features softly rounded lower corners and a strong, gently curved brow, creating a balanced profile with pronounced proportions. The dark-toned frame is paired with striking aqua lenses, introducing a cool contrast that gives the design a distinctly period-specific character. Frame Model: College 4/966 Decade: 1980s Country of Origin: Germany Lenses: New aqua lenses Condition: Excellent vintage Measurements: 54-18-135 Historical Context Neostyle was founded in Germany in 1961 by Walter A. Nufer, with the philosophy that eyewear should be more than functional. From its beginning, the company emphasized distinctive, design-led frames intended to complement the personality of the wearer, eventually adopting “Personality Eyewear” as its guiding philosophy. The family-run company became internationally established during the 1970s and was an early exhibitor at Milan’s MIDO eyewear fair beginning in 1970. Neostyle became particularly iconic through designer Konstantin Livas and the Nautic series. Elvis Presley discovered the Nautic in Los Angeles and became one of its most famous wearers, including during his legendary 1972 Madison Square Garden performances. The bold metal construction and oversized proportions associated with Neostyle’s 1970s designs helped make the German house highly collectible among vintage eyewear enthusiasts today
